The goal of the Space Aware Society (SAS) is to promote the message of the importance of human space activity to the general public, thereby prompting government entities to take action.
SAS does not intend to be just another space advocate organization. We wish to work together with other space organizations to achieve a common goal. That goal being public education using a unique, powerful and targeted educational tool.
We are dedicated to educating the public about how our health, peace and wellbeing depends on our utilization, exploitation, and eventual colonization of space. And how we have to start now if we are to divert, alleviate and reverse the consequences of our past, current and future actions.
At this point in our history, we (man) are well on our way to depleting, over populating and virtually destroying the very planet that we depend on for our wellbeing and our survival.
It has been predicted that fossil fuels will be gone by the year 2030. Even with miscalculation in this prediction combined with increased conservation, we can't expect fossil fuels to last longer than about 2050.
It has been predicted that earth's population will reach over 9 billion by the year 2050, from the current 6 billion. Calculations indicate that the earth is only capable of feeding about 13 billion. So by about 2070 or so, there won't be enough food to go around.
The burning of fossil fuels and clearing of forests for food, energy and building products is slowly destroying the ecology of the planet.
The solutions are available. The technology is either available or a short ways away. The problems boil down to awareness of the issues and a willingness to do what needs to be done.
Think these solutions aren't possible? Here is what some “experts” said about things that “couldn't be done”...
"The energy produced by the breaking down of the atom is a very poor kind of thing. Anyone who expects a source of power from the transformation of these atoms is talking moonshine." -- Ernest Rutherford, shortly after splitting the atom for the first time.

The current political climate and attitude is such that politicians will only deal with the issues at hand and can only see as far into the future as their available term of office. The issues touched on here are not in the public eye and therefore not in the politicians'. The bulk of the consequences of these issues are beyond any politician's term of office. The main problem with this attitude is that the solutions required to head off these consequences will take decades to fully implement. So if we don't start now, we'll be in big trouble. The good news is, if we do start now, we can begin reaping the benefits of these efforts in just a few years.
